Present Habitat: The capybara thrives in the dense undergrowth of the tropical rainforest, using its brown fur to blend with the foliage and large size to navigate through the thick vegetation. It moves on four sturdy legs, able to swim and dive in the forest streams and ponds, finding its diet of aquatic plants easily. Future adaptation: With the rainforest receding and turning into a mixed woodland, the capybara evolves. Its fur lightens to match the dappled sunlight filtering through sparse trees, providing better camouflage. Its limbs elongate slightly for easier movement in the open spaces, and its diet shifts to include more grasses and shrubs found in the emerging savanna. Its webbed feet remain adept for swimming in the remaining water sources, now scattered across the landscape.
