The animal that must evolve in order to survive the long term effects of climate change and habitat destruction is Panthera onca or the jaguar. One of the major problems that is currently occurring in the world is deforestation. This is a major problem especially in the Amazon Rainforest, where a lot of Jaguars live. In the future, deforestation will lead to the vast majority of the Amazon Rainforest being cut down to create more arable land. This will cause the mighty jungle to be transformed into grasslands. The jaguar will have to develop new adaptations to survive in these new savannas. Some of these adaptations include losing their spots, their fur becoming lighter, shedding their traditionally heavy fur, becoming faster, and adapting to only eat certain types of food, to reduce competition between themselves and other predators. These adaptations will help them to survive in their new home.
