The jaguar is a large cat that lives in the rainforests of Central and South America mostly around rivers. It’s an apex predator that can swim and climb trees as it hunts prey animals like deer, armadillos, and reptiles. In the future, these rainforests will become shallow marshes as sea levels rise. Temperatures will be higher than now. The jaguar will adapt to these changes by becoming more like the Florida panther that lives in the Everglades. The future jaguar will be smaller but have a longer tail, larger ears, and thinner fur to help stay cool. Its fur will be a light brown color for better camouflage among bushes in the marsh. It will have longer claws with webbing for better climbing and swimming while hunting small animals like birds and fish. All these changes will turn the jaguar into a new species.
