Toucans are bright colorful creatures that live in the tropical rainforest canopies. They make their homes in hollowed out trees. Toucans are omnivores and eat fruit, insects, rodents and invertebrates. Because of future climate change, the temperature will rise, causing toucans to migrate further north to the U.S. If they migrate further distances due to rising seas, their wings will grow larger and stronger, making it easier to fly to their new home. Toucans will then need to blend into their environment. Since lots of trees in the U.S. are green, toucans’ colors will go from bright and vibrant to a duller green. The final Toucan adaptation would be longer talons. Currently, toucans find most of their food in holes of old trees. There will be fewer large old trees because of deforestation and they will need longer talons to reach into small brush to find food.
