The present black-capped squirrel monkey lives in the inland tropical rainforest and has great vision to spot predators, like eagles. They are small animals, only about a foot tall, and under 2.5 pounds! They use their tails for balance. They live midway up trees so they can’t be seen by predators and stain their hands with urine to mark their territory. Climate change will cause the squirrel monkey’s environment to turn into a savanna. Since the savanna does not have many trees, it will adapt to glide to get longer distances between trees. They will use sharp claws to cling to trees and dig burrows to protect themselves from eagles and snakes. They usually eat leaves, but the savanna will not be able to provide this, so they will have to adapt to eat insects and grasses. Luckily, their coloring already allows them to blend into the savanna.
