The tapir lives in Asia, and around Central and South America. They live amongst grassy areas with wood trunks and they shelter near rivers . Also spending time near lakes during the day time. These habitats are threatened because of deforestation, disease transmitted through livestock, and excessive hunting. The tapir currently has dark fur and soft jaws with splayed feet because they love to swim in the water areas mentioned previously. If these tapirs’ environments have severely fewer trees because of deforestation, they will have to adapt. They will adapt by having lighter fur because without trees, the sun will hit them harder and their current dark fur would really affect them. They will also have feet more shaped for land due to a future lack of water.Their jaws will also adapt because their current jaws are fit for eating fruits and plants, both of which grow on trees.
