The common basilisk is a lizard that is sand colored to green and is an omnivore. And it can run on water. The Amazon rainforest is a big place, so in theory, it would make sense that some parts might resort to the desert and others may be covered with water over a 1000 years. That is why I have the Species split into two main branches. First, the desert mutation much smaller than its ancestry. it now has wings to glide across the hot sand in the heat. The new lizard has a concentrated urine for minimal water loss. Also, due to a ring of muscles around the nose, it can better brow into the sand. the ocean lizard version like the basilisk is much smaller, and the body has adapted to dive into the water for algae and bugs. It developed a blueish-green tint for hiding in water.
