Rainforest Hawk Adaptation

The rainforest hawk, a skilled predator, thrives in its present habitat by using sharp talons, excellent eyesight, and its ability to maneuver through dense forest canopies. The hawk’s diet includes small mammals, reptiles, and insects, supported by its strong hunting instincts. Climate change poses significant challenges, transforming its rainforest home into savannas. In the future, the hawk too will adapt by developing broader wings for long-distance gliding, a slimmer body to manage open landscapes, and a diet shift to include ground-dwelling prey. These adaptations will ensure the hawk’s survival in a hotter, drier world. Time and natural selection will play a role, requiring thousands of years for the hawk to evolve these traits. My illustrations show the hawk as it exists today and its projected adaptations to this changing environment.
