A common characteristic of leopards is the dark rosette dots that cover their golden fur. Leopards inhabit deserts, rugged mountainous areas, savanas, meadows, woods, and subtropical and tropical climates. They are powerful carnivores with lengthy bodies and tails. All four feet have sharp claws that enable them to climb trees and kill prey. Leopard habitat is being lost, fragmented, and prey species are declining. They might need to shrink in size if the leopard species is to survive. Perhaps they should switch to an omnivorous diet.
