Current environment: The Brown-Throated Sloth lives in the rain forest in Central and South America.
Present adaptations: Sloths have slow metabolism and move slowly. They eat only 1 leaf every month. Their 3 claws and long arms and legs allow them to hang from trees.
Future environment: In the future, the rain forest will have reduced rainfall. Fires and dry conditions will lead to loss of trees and canopy cover. The rain forest will become a Savannah.
Future adaptations: Future sloths will have to adapt by growing long and sharp teeth covered with thick enamel so that they can chew more food to keep up with energy demands. They need stronger legs to be able to walk and run to escape predators. The future sloth will also grow an extra finger to grasp
objects on the ground. The future sloth will be well adapted to the Savannah environment.
