Cotingas are bright-colored birds that live in central/south America. They are the lightest and loudest birds in the world. They have strong curved beaks. There are 66 species of cotinga birds in the world. Cotingas come in colors of blue-purple, (any color/shade), bright orange, and turquoise. They are flightful birds and are covered in feathers. They are small birds. The foods they eat are fruit and insects. Cotingas participate in spectacular courtship rituals and behaviors that lead to mating. The Amazon rainforest will become grasslands over the next 1000 years. If the cotinga will survive in this new environment, its feathers must be green or tan to blend in. It will also have a longer, straighter beak to pick bugs off the ground and from small holes.
