Thousands of years in the future, the world will be very different. Opinions on topics can change drastically, the climate can become vastly different (though hopefully it stays the same), and creatures will evolve and obtain new adaptations to survive on this new planet, including the two-toed sloth. I predict that in the future, sloths will have increased mobility, a more efficient digestive system, and greater resilience to heat if climate change continues as is. Once the general temperature reaches a certain point, the tropical rainforests they live in can become mixed woodland or even go dry, having reduced rainfall and being generally more open. In my opinion, for a sloth to survive in this kind of environment, they will need to be quicker to avoid predators and other hazards, heat-resistant so they can survive the temperatures, and have more efficient digestion to get the most out of their food.
