Pit vipers live in the tropical rainforests of Central South America. Their name comes from their “pit”, an organ that is located between the eyes and the nostrils. It senses the body heat of the prey to give the viper a picture of the animal in its mind. They mainly eat birds, frogs, and small mammals. Most of these venomous snakes are nocturnal.
In the future, the tropical rainforests will be entirely flooded with water. The Pit viper will grow fins and flippers. They’ll also have gills so they can breathe underwater. They may also change their diet to consist of seaweed, fish, moss and maybe small crabs. since they will be spending more time in water their scales will turn a turquoise blue color. The Pit will be able to sense more body heat and the Pit viper will have better eyesight. Pit vipers will adapt to the environment.
