Giant otters live in the rivers and streams of the Amazon rainforest. Sadly, they are endangered. They swim by propelling their tails and have ears and nostrils that close in the water. They also have webbed feet and water repellent fur to keep them warm and dry. They mainly eat fish. Each may eat six to nine pounds of food per day. They live in family groups for protection.
In the future, the rainforest will be flooded like a swamp with little land. They'll still stay in groups but will have better eyesight to see underwater. They’ll also have bigger and stronger arms to swim away from predators like piranhas faster. They’ll have bigger claws so they can catch prey and protect themselves. They’ll grow more fur so they don’t lose more body heat. They’ll still eat fish and have larger lungs for longer swims. The giant otters will survive.
