If the Amazon was to undergo an extreme drought due to climate change, the Capybara would undergo immense adaptations to be able to survive. One important factor is the traits they have for water. Their webbed toes, fur texture, and facial features would change. The ears would be larger and have a tail for heat dissipation. Not only do they undergo physical changes, but internal changes. This includes specialized heat glands, nocturnal vision, and even vegetation! One of the most powerful adaptations is the eyes. The eyes shift downward to create a more forward facing orientation. They also have larger eyes and nocturnal vision. They also have thicker whiskers to help with sensory at night. These adaptations have caused the Capybara to embrace its rodent traits and inherit more mouse-like tendencies.
