Present: Spider-Monkeys live in the upper canopies of tropical rainforests. They have long, slender bodies with thin limbs that allow them to swing between trees. Their arms are “hook-like” and their tails are prehensile, both helping them in regard of transportation through the canopy. Finally, these monkeys have dark fur that helps them to regulate their body temperature. Future: Deforestation and Fires will partially wipe-out rainforests. Monkeys will now live near the ground. They will have strong claws, allowing them to escape prey, and their tails will become shorter, since they aren’t as needed to swing between trees. Rising temperatures will affect the water availability and heat levels in the rainforest. Spider Monkeys will travel at night-time to escape the heat and search for water. They will develop “tapetum lucidum,” part of the eye that helps with night vision. The monkeys will develop darker fur for camouflage.
