The Komodo dragon is a large monitor lizard found on Komodo Island and nearby islands. They feed on invertebrates, birds, and large mammals, but rising sea levels are threatening their habitat, pushing them closer to extinction. To survive, Komodo dragons will need to evolve. The landscape of Komodo Island, filled with volcanic hills, savannahs, and forests, could soon end up underwater due to climate change. Although Komodo dragons can swim, they will need to get better at it to survive longer. This includes swimming faster, accelerating quickly, and holding their breath for extended periods. Possible adaptations might include webbed feet for improved swimming, a longer tail for striking prey like fast fish, and larger eyes to see better underwater. They may also develop fangs to deliver venom more effectively when biting, as their teeth are hidden until they attack. Lastly, growing fins could significantly enhance their swimming capabilities.
