Ringtail possums are small marsupials found in the tropical rainforest. Marsupials are small mammals. The females have pouches on their stomachs to carry their babies. These pouches are one of the ringtail possum’s many adaptations. Its other adaptations are large eyes for seeing in the dark, opposable claws on each foot, long and flexible tails used as a fifth limb, the ability to make loud shrieking sounds to communicate with each other, playing dead when threatened, and females producing milk for babies. In the future, the rainforest will become very warm with few trees, and less vegetation and precipitation. The ringtail possum will need roomy pouches on each front arm for storing food, special eyes that can zoom into objects to find food and shelter, lighter fur to blend, more milk so their babies won’t go hungry, shorter tails, and immunity to bug bites. Ringtail possums are awesome!
