The tapir currently lives in the rainforest, a very humid and rainy environment. It rains 66 to 390 inches a year in a rainforest. When climate change hits, the rainforest will turn into a dry savanna. A dry savanna has a lot of grasses and an occasional tree. It barely ever rains there, and the dry season lasts five to seven months. Tapirs have short legs right now, but they will adapt to long legs. These will help prevent parasites from the long grasses from getting onto the tapirs. Tapirs usually eat a lot of food, but food is scarce in the savanna, so they will slowly adapt to be smaller. Instead of jumping into water when being chased by predators, they will jump into a large bush to hide from larger predators. They could also sweat less to conserve the water in their bodies because water is so scarce.
