The Amazon River Dolphin’s future habitat could be the Savanna. The savanna is dry and hot, and there is not a reliable source of water. This environment would change the dolphins by making their bodies smaller and fins larger because there would be less water to live in and the larger fins could help them maneuver around on land. Their lungs would also have to increase their capacity because of more time above water. They would also lose the thin layer of blubber around the body because it would overheat them. The dolphins wouldn’t just be carnivores anymore, they would eat vegetation too such as seaweed or leaves. They would also have to be able to live on the land for short periods because, during parts of the year, the water is completely evaporated. Climate change would affect the dolphins giving them slightly better vision to tell trash from prey.
