The proboscis monkey is easily recognizable due to its distinctive long nose, which plays a crucial role in attracting mates. Males with larger noses tend to be more attractive to females. These monkeys are also adept at leaping from trees into water, showcasing their unique adaptations for survival. Their diet primarily consists of fruits, leaves, and seeds, and their swimming ability enables them to access food sources that may be otherwise unreachable.
With webbed digits, they swim through the water with ease, helping them evade predators like crocodiles. Native to the mangrove forests and swamps of Borneo and Sumatra, these monkeys are specially adapted to their environment. The future evolution of the proboscis monkeys is in the savanna, where they use their long noses to reach food high in trees and have developed flaps to glide as they leap through their habitat from trees.
