A Rainbow Lorikeets’ current habitat is a rainforest, which is predicted to become a savanna. Due to this change they will have fewer hiding places, more predators, and will have to switch food sources. The birds are currently eating pollen, which will evolve to insects as there will be fewer flowers, hence the longer beak to reach below ground. As these birds must spot bugs and insects from a distance, they are called Sand Snipers (Harenae pellentesque), replacing the old title of Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus). No more bright colors will be found in their home, so they now have striped brown feathers to blend into sedimentary rocks. As they no longer have trees and bushes to hide in, they will scare off predators with their pointy head and larger wings. The Sand Snipers claws are larger and sharper than their ancestors, in order to attach to rocks and cacti.
