The three-toed sloth is one of the most unique animals. It is an arboreal mammal found throughout Central and South America. Its scientific name is Bradypus. Sloths are folivores, meaning they exclusively consume leaves, twigs and buds, and eat the leaves of close to 30 different tree and liana (woody vines) species. They are normally brown and shaggy. Due to climate change the leaves are no longer there because it is too hot and humid in the rainforest. The trees are dying and their bark is rough textured. The sloth has green algae growing on its back because it moves at such a slow pace. They move on average only about half the length of a football field (41 yards) per day. The sloth’s nails are filed down from the harsh climate. He is more malnourished due to their resources around them. The new name is Short-Toed-Sloth.
