In a changing world, the vibrant toucan, faces a new challenge. Climate change and deforestation could alter its rainforest habitat. The lush canopies it soared through are now bare. While many will move on to other areas, I believe that some toucans will adapt in new and exciting ways, such as evolving to live on the ground. With the lessened need for their radiant beaks, their coloring will dull, to aid in camouflage against predators. While still able to fly, these birds will develop shorter hardier beaks, and stronger legs for running.
Most toucans reside in burrows abandoned by armadillos, in groups of 10-20. As a result of scarce food sources, their diets will shift from fruit and nuts, to insects, and small animals, and these toucans will adapt to break away into multiple smaller hunting packs of 3-7, with larger dominant males taking the reins when hunting prey.
