Capybaras live in the rainforest of the Amazon. They have webbed feet, which help them swim. They also have eyes, ears, and a nose on the top of their head, like a hippopotamus, which helps them stay submerged in the water for long periods of time. Capybaras use these adaptations to hide and get away from predators.
In the future with climate change, their habitat will be flooded so they will need more adaptations to survive. One of these adaptations could be the ability to tolerate salt water. This would help because the oceans might rise and get more salt water in the Amazon River. Capybaras will also develop floating nesting behaviors, so that their nests can be floating in the Amazon River, like beavers. They would also develop a longer tail that could act like a rudder in the river. This would help them swim more efficiently.
