In the rainforests Southern Africa you can find the Knysna Turaco hopping around the canopy finding fruit. They are adapted to their current environment, they are able to digest particularly fibrous plants other animals can’t. Knysna Turacos have red feathers that catch the eye of the predator when being chased, the bird closes its wings and the red disappears, so does the Turaco, hidden in the rainforest.
I believe in about one-hundred-ten-years the Knysna Turaco will have evolved into the Orange Turaco, they will live on the ground in shrublands that once were rainforests. They will be smaller and eat insects with their long beak and use webbed feet to hide. They will be orange to camouflage with bright feathers under their wings.
With a rate of 1.6% rainforest loss in South Africa annually, by 2135 there will be less than 20% of the current rainforest. Numbers don’t lie!
