Three-toed Sloths live in tropical rainforests which will become a coastal wetland due to severe rain. To adjust to this new environment, they’ll develop different adaptations. Their diet will change from leaves, twigs, and fruit to aquatic plants and small fish. Because of sloth’s slow movement and metabolism, it can take up to a month for them to digest a single meal. Their digestive system would adapt to this new diet. Sloths have weak limbs so increased muscle mass would help them to paddle faster to get away from predators and to catch their prey. The Wetland Sloth will have a strong, elongated tail that propels themselves to swim faster and dive deeper. The last adaption they will have is a streamlined body, which is designed for swimming and will help reduce resistance. The sloth will also have elongated limbs and a flattened shape to support this idea.
