the potoo–today to the future
The Potoo has large, round eyes, for seeing in the dark. They have wide mouths, used to catch insects. Soft plumage allows them to fly silently. In the future this will change: Most likely they would become smaller and their feathers would probably become more bark-like for camouflage. Larger eyes would help to hunt in low-light environments, tufts on sides of their head would help to appear larger. These tufts would block out the noise of humans, as Potoos like calm areas.
the potoo’s habitat–today to the future
They might move to a neighborhood. They could take advantage of bugs and insects attracted to streetlights. If Potoos moved to urban landscapes, then there would be less trees for them to roost. Therefore, they could adapt to building nests in abandoned buildings or hidden rooftops. They could also change to perching on poles, fences, and roofs.
