Crested owls live in rainforests. The owl feeds on large insects, and they might feed on small animals too. They nest in natural holes of trees. Crested owls camouflage to look like a tree in the daytime. As global warming and deforestation continues, the rainforest will turn into a savanna, and the crested owl will have to undergo new adaptations. Its feathers will become light golden brown to blend in with the savanna grass and to eject heat. Since trees are scarce, the crested owl will develop stronger talons to dig burrows in the ground. Since rodents and bugs are scarce, the crested owl will also start scavenging, as well as hunting smaller birds. The crested owls’ crests will be used to block sunlight, since the owl will start scavenging in the day. These adaptations will help the owl survive what will be a savanna in a thousand years.
