The three-toed sloth lives in the Amazon Rainforest. This is where it currently lives and thrives in the lowland tropical trees. Its slow movement and low metabolism help it conserve energy. Its long claws let it hang on branches for hours. The sloth’s thick fur gives it camouflage, blending in with moss and algae that grow on its back. This protects it from predators and harsh weather.
In the future, after climate change and many other factors, deforestation can change the sloth's habitat for the worse. This can cause smaller, fragmented forests. Sloths may adapt and change by becoming quicker or changing their diet to utilize new plants. They could also develop stronger claws for climbing over more challenging land. However, their slow speed can limit their ability to escape danger or find new habitats.
