The current Poison Dart Frog has moist skin and relies on the humid environment for respiration. The frog's bright colors show predators they are toxic. They have sticky toe pads to help them grip wet vegetation. They also lay their eggs in leaf litter. The future Poison Dart Frog will have a duller color to blend into the savannah environment. Its skin will be less permeable to withstand the drier climate. Its toe pads will become shrunken and rougher to better grip rocky, dry areas. Lastly, they will start to lay their eggs in underground pockets of moist soil and in the shadows of rocks or logs to be able to lay their eggs still in a moist environment.
