Climate change is a major influence on changes in animals and their habitats. Since climate change continues to impact environments like the Congo Basin Rainforest that gorillas live in, they will need to adapt in many ways to survive. One major genetic adaptation is their fluffy, thick fur that will adapt to leathery and light fur. Although gorillas handle heat very well, temperatures continue to rise, and by having light fur, they will be able to stay cool. Furthermore, the tropical rainforest they live in will change to a savannah, also changing the food availability of gorillas. They will have to adjust their diets from fruits to bamboo and tough leaves that are drought resistant. The survival of gorillas relies on not only their ability to adapt in response to changes but also the efforts that humans put into protecting their habitats from further damage.
