Caecilians are limbless, burrowing amphibians that resemble worms or snakes. They live in tropical regions, primarily in moist soil or freshwater habitats. Their smooth, mucus-covered skin helps them stay hydrated, and they have specialized chemosensory tentacles to detect prey underground.
As global temperatures rise, caecilians may face habitat loss due to drying soils and reduced rainfall. However, their burrowing lifestyle could provide some protection from extreme heat. Species in wetter environments may adapt by shifting to deeper soils or underground water sources. Some may evolve enhanced resistance to dehydration or expand their range to cooler, higher-altitude regions. They might develop rough and darker skin, bigger eyes, sharp teeth, larger lungs, and four limbs.
