The fast loris was initially the slow loris, the world’s only venomous primate. Over thousands of years living in the shadow of global warming and pollution, the slow loris was forced to adapt from a fuzzy brown prosimian to a gray, lemur-like threat. The loris developed longer limbs, so fleeing predators and hunting became more straightforward. The loris’s ears and nose became larger, making detecting predators and prey more efficient. It grew fangs that produced the same venom found on its elbows to make hunting quicker and more effective since insects and fruit could not be depended on. The loris’s fur thinned and changed color to stay cool in the smothering heat and blend with the smoke. Luckily, the looming threats of global warming and pollution have not forced this lovable creature to make these drastic changes yet, but it is only a matter of time.
