The Toco Toucan or Raphasto toco in South America hops in the tree canopy because they are poor fliers. It has a black body except for its white throat and orange skin around its eyes. Because of this bright coloring the toucan will not camouflage well. They use their 7.5 inch long lightweight beaks to reach fruit and for a fruit toss mating ritual. Their beaks are not good for fighting due to their weight but they absorb impact well. Due to deforestation, toucans’ habitats will disappear and become savanna. Their beaks will be smaller and less colorful for camouflage, and they will be better for fighting. The new beak will be heavier so they can eat rodents, small birds, and insects. They will have a streamlined body and sharper wings so they can fly better and faster to avoid predators beyond the comfort of the trees.
