Due to deforestation and climate change, the largest predator in the Amazon, the Black Caiman is facing a serious threat of endangerment and extinction. Because of this it must adapt to be more fit for land rather than water and swamps which are rapidly disappearing from the Amazon. To do this, the Black Caiman will develop lighter scale coloration in order to better camouflage against plains and savannas and change many aspects of its body such as longer legs and larger teeth for hunting larger prey rather than fish or birds.
