Present: The capybara is the largest living rodent, native to the South American rainforest. Capybaras are herbivores, and use their long, sharp teeth for grazing on grass and water plants. An adult capybara can eat 6-8 pounds of grass per day. During the dry season a capybara will eat reeds, grains, and squashes. Capybaras live Up to 10 years in the wild, up to 12 years in captivity.
Future: The adaptations the capybara might have in 50,000 years in my opinion is it could have a thicker coat, might become larger, may become a carnivore, and grow white fur. All these adaptations will help it survive the next ice age. The thicker coat will help it stay warm, getting bigger will help protect it, being a carnivore will help feed it when plants are scarce, and having white fur will help it blend in with the snow.
