The Nine Banded Armadillo lives in the Southeastern U.S to the west of New Mexico. The Nine Banded Armadillo eats insects such as grubs, and cockroaches. Armadillos protect themselves by rolling up almost all the way to where if the predator steps on them their predator's paw will get trapped. The Nine banded armadillo's outer shell is boney and dermal ridges covered by overlapping keratinized connected by flexible bands of skin. In the future, Nine Banded Armadillos will have a thicker outer shell to protect themselves from predators. The reason they will have a thicker outer shell is because deforestation is happening everywhere at an alarming rate so more predators will be exposed and armadillos will be in danger. The next reason is because of the sunlight they are not used to and if their shell doesn't get thicker the unexpected UV light will cause damage.
