3 toed sloths have weak limbs that make it hard for them to move quickly so the future sloth will have strong muscular limbs to ensure that it moves quickly and avoids predators especially when it needs to go to the ground due to habitat loss. The present sloth also has long, arched, hollowed claws that serve as its only defense. The future sloth will have dense, razor sharp claws that, combined with stronger limbs, will give it the best chance at defending itself. The future sloth will also have thicker skin to serve as a shield against predators. Lastly, the future sloth will be smaller so it can hide in the thinning forest as it undergoes deforestation.
