The toucan is a native species to the Neotropics, found in Southern Mexico to Central America, and Northern to Southern Argentina. Toucans are omnivores; they eat fruits, insects, lizards, rodents, small birds, and insects. They use their colorful beaks- which are surprisingly light due to their hollowness- to rip apart fruits. Toucans fly for short durations- they prefer using their legs and hop from branch to branch.
However, with the looming threat of climate change and increasing temperatures, the habitat of toucans is at risk. The tropical rainforests toucans live in might, over thousands of years, turn into a savanna. Random mutations that occur in the toucan might ensure its survival in this new habitat. The toucan would have browner feathers that can hold moisture, longer legs, sharper talons, longer feathers built for long-distance flight, and a shorter and hooked beak.
