The Blue Malaysian Coral snakes, nocturnal inhabitants of Malaysia's rainforests, are at risk. Their home is slowly changing until in the future, these creature’s habitat will be unrecognizable. Blue Malaysian Coral snakes have black scales with white lining, and bright red underbellies; these snakes use the striking appearance of the underside to shock prey. This is how these snakes survive. However, deforestation and increased rainfall threatens their habitat, potentially turning rain forests into wetlands. USDA climate hubs show us rainfall is increasing by 0.03 inches per decade, causing coral snakes to grow larger and lose tree-dwelling traits, adapting to future wetland conditions. Additionally, invasive species are threats, as their brightness diminishes the coral snakes' surprise advantage, potentially leading to darker upper sides and brighter undersides for camouflage and the element of surprise. These are all the changes that could happen to the Blue Malaysian Coral snakes in the far future.
