Present Habitat: Tropical Rainforest
The basilisk lizard lives in the tropical rainforest. It can run across water using its long toes and light body. This helps it escape from predators. Its green color helps it blend into the trees and leaves, where it hunts insects and small animals.
Future Habitat: Underwater Rainforest
With rising seas and floods, the rainforest becomes underwater. The basilisk lizard adapts by growing webbed feet to swim better. It may also develop gills or better lungs to breathe underwater. Its skin becomes strong against water, and its color changes to green and blue to blend in with the water. These changes help the lizard survive in the new environment.
