The three-toed pygmy sloth, native to Isla Escudo de Veraguas, has fur with a green tint from algae, which helps it blend into the leafy canopy, hiding from predators. Its long claws are perfect for tree climbing, essential for its mangrove-based diet. With a sluggish metabolism, it only defecates once a week. Poor eyesight keeps it from moving much.
In the future, global warming might deforest rainforests, forcing this sloth to adapt. It will need to move faster, with an evolved spine for greater leg extension. Its claws will become more like paws, with heat-resistant metacarpals. Sweating will be a new skill, thanks to newly developed sweat glands. Enhanced vision through evolved pectens, sclera, and central fovea will aid in spotting threats. Lastly, shorter hair will help its skin breathe better.
