The Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) is a powerful predator native to the Amazon Rainforest in South America. It has large, strong talons for gripping prey, short but broad wings for maneuvering through dense trees, a sharp, curved beak for tearing flesh, and black-and-white plumage that blends into its environment. It thrives in the emergent layer of the rainforest, building nests in tall trees and hunting in the canopy. However, as deforestation and climate change threaten the Amazon, the Harpy Eagle’s habitat may shrink, and its prey could become scarcer. To survive, it may develop a longer wingspan to cover greater distances in search of food, a more varied diet to adapt to changing prey availability, and darker plumage for better camouflage in a disrupted environment. These adaptations would help ensure its survival in an ever-changing rainforest.
