Scarlet Ibis

Today Scarlet Ibis lives in the tropical rainforest. With rising sea levels, rainforests will become marshes in 1000 years. The Ibis will need to change its physical features to adapt to the new environment. 1) Today it eats shrimp, fish and crabs but in 1000 years it will eat snakes, birds, and turtles. • Its long beak will change to sharp teeth to tear its prey. It will have strong jaws that can unhinge and grab the prey by their size. 2) It will shed its feathers and will develop greenish greyish color scales to wait in the water for its prey. 3) It will have gills to breathe under water. 4) It will also need a strong muscular tail to maneuver sharp turns under water and swim faster. 5) Its legs will have knees to run faster on land and talons to perch on low branches in marshes.
