Imagine Earth changing. Rainforests becoming savannas, wetlands turning to deserts. Climate change is reshaping our world, and some species, like the sloth, may evolve in unexpected ways. Today, sloths are small animals with long, thin claws, who thrive in Central and South American rainforests. But if global warming continues, their future could be drastically different. A future sloth might be larger for protection, with shorter, thicker claws for walking, since there would be less trees around. Its thin fur would blend into dry grass, and a longer snout could help it drink from deep water sources. A tail might help regulate body temperature in extreme heat. If we act now, we might be able to prevent beloved species such as the sloth from facing evolving in such harsh ways. If the sloth evolves this awfully, then what would future humans be like? Think about your actions—before it’s too late.
