All rainforests are very sensitive to climate change. Scientists predict the Amazon rainforest could become the Amazon savanna if we continue ignoring earth’s climate crisis. As the Amazon's trees are chopped, burned down, and drowned, the rainforest will slowly transition to savanna-like land. All of the 3 million species occupying the Amazon rainforest will be negatively impacted. As a result of the climate crisis, animals will begin to evolve to live in the environment in the savanna. My chosen animal, the jaguar, currently inhabits both the rainforest and savanna but always stays near water sources like rivers and wetlands. If the global climate crisis worsens, the jaguar will likely have to evolve to store nutrients due to a shortage of resources. Because of this need, I believe the jaguar will evolve to grow a small inconspicuous hump, similar to a camel's, storing energy and regulating their temperature.
