In the future, due to the increasing deforestation rates and illegal hunting in the Ituri Rainforest, okapis will likely relocate from there to the Salonga National Park as it is isolated from humans and is the largest protected area of dense rainforest in Africa. This national park will fulfill all the okapis’ requirements to survive, however, it is also home to many threatening predators to the okapi. Therefore, okapis will have to adapt in order to live. They will evolve to have smaller bodies and flexible spines with powerful shoulders and forelimbs to run faster and move more freely in cramped, dense rainforests. To avoid attracting attention they will also have padded feet. Additionally, they’ll have larger ears to sense nearby predators, no stripes for camouflage in the dark, larger, sharper, horns for protection against its enemies, thicker layers of skin, and upper, lower front teeth for more flexible diets.
