My entry highlights the caecilian, an often-overlooked amphibian, and its potential future adaptations in the face of environmental change. The first image represents its current, vulnerable state. This subterranean creature plays a crucial role in rainforest soil ecosystems, aerating the soil and controlling invertebrate populations. Its delicate skin and small size make it susceptible to environmental stressors.
The second image depicts our vision for its survival. As rainforests face deforestation and rising temperatures, this future caecilian has evolved a robust, armored outer shell. This shell provides vital protection from increased predation and shields it from the impacts of climate change. This adaptation shows the power of natural selection. By showcasing this evolution, we address biodiversity and ecological change.
