Iguanas in Amazon forest are well-suited for wet conditions but can be vulnerable since the region is in the process of becoming drier and savanna-like landscape due to climate change and deforestation. The reptiles may need new camouflage, defense, food sources and movement adaptation. As the foliage of the rainforest disappears, having skin color of brown and tan savanna vegetation is necessary to blend in. In an open space like savanna, the enhanced form of tail-whipping, camouflage, sharper teeth and stronger jaw, could help deter predators. Even movement adaptation may be required such as stronger legs for running or burrowing behaviors. However, rapidity in environmental transformation may outstrip adaptation in iguanas. Climate and forest loss complicate things as much and in combination represent a deadly threat towards extinction.
